For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned
said Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of United States of America. From centuries, humans have organized their routines by using a pen and paper. Being organized brings out efficiency in work and reduces stress. But a pen and paper is not used only for organizing your lifestyle. Hundreds and thousands of papers have absorbed words of wisdom, kindness, knowledge and compassion. Writing is not always academic. From to-do lists to books, different combination of words are used by individuals throughout their lives. With the incorporation of technology in every part of human life, writing has also shifted to smart gadgets and when we talk about writing, online notepads, often called e-notepads, are a must use. An online notepad is a modern form of notepad available on the web that can be used to produce various forms of text.
Users have several benefits of using an online notepad. Imagine sitting in the waiting lounge at the dentist’s clinic and suddenly the bright idea for which you were brainstorming since days comes to your mind out of nowhere. The need to note it down somewhere is vital but you have nothing to write on. But there is one thing you carry anywhere you go and that is your mobile phone. So you just take it out, go to the browser and search for an online notepad. The search engine provides you with a variety of options to choose from. By clicking on a web address, you open an online notepad where you jot down your idea and it is saved for eternity. A few hours later, you are sitting in your cozy bed with your laptop and your phone is a little too far to reach from the bed. As procrastination is a part of a hard-working person’s life, instead of getting up after a long day at work, you open the browser on your laptop. Next, you login to your online notepad and there are your notes, saved for your later use! That is how online notepads work.
Talking about the benefits of using an online notepad, below are few points that you might consider while choosing.
first one is that there is a variety of online notepads available on the internet from simple to advanced ones. You can choose any online notepad from several available options that suits your needs. Advanced online notepads have many features that are offered by Microsoft Word. Even the simplest online notepads provide the options of cut, copy, paste, undo, redo, word and character count. With advanced online notepads, users can explore features such as text formatting, alignment, font size, font style, font color, inserting media, tables and much more. Some advanced online notepads also have spelling checker, grammar checker, plagiarism checker and option to paraphrase the content. A few of them support more than one kind of file formats and permit users to convert PDF files into editable text. Online notepads with the dictate keyboard option permits users to write without typing. Whatever the user speaks is written in the notepad saving users from the hassle of typing along with saving their time.
Accessibility is another major benefit of an online notepad. It can be accessed from any smart gadget to access the same data, provided that you have made an account on that online notepad site. Without an account, you can only access the data from the device you saved it. Online notepads can be used on mobile phones, laptops, mac books or any smart gadget of your choice at any place and time.
Your data is saved for eons and chances of data loss are little to none. You might lose your gadget but your data is saved in the notepad and you can access it from any other gadget. Chances of data theft are also decreased to minimal if you use a password protected online notepad. Data can be organized in different files and each file can be given a unique title. The next time you need that specific data, just search the name of the file and it will pop-up on your screen, saving time. The option to re-organize the files is always available and you can revise as well as re-format the data inside the files whenever you want. Everything is present in one place saving users from the hassle of going through pages or different gadgets to find the specific data they need. You can always download the data file into your device if you want.
The most cherished benefit of an online notepad is that there is no need to download it on your phone or anywhere else, thus saving storage of your gadget. PATCH 1 From prior education, I was already aware of the difference between qualitive and quantitative research. I was comfortable with these terms and the practical applications they provide. This knowledge allowed me to learn and apply the new methods learnt later in this research module (Hailikari et al. 2008). This module was not what I was expecting but was a necessary module to undertake as outlines further types of research methods and where each are most useful for us students to use and present. In my view, the objectives of the module were to learn about these various methods and their practical applications. These would be beneficial to learn at our current stage to then develop them as we progress through the course. Research methods are a valuable skill that we can carry not only through our education, but also if we wish to undertake research as qualified practitioners. Learning how to present the data from the research allows us to tailor to the target audience. For example, a patient would benefit from simple visuals (e.g. bar graph) rather than more technical or raw data that would be more suitable for a student or qualified physiotherapist. We can apply different methods of presentation depending on the understanding of the individuals. As a novice to conducting research, I assumed that data collection was a simple process. I was surprised to learn the numerous steps prior to this, such as ensuring the data is correct, safety/ethical considerations and funding. Numerous factors can affect the process. PATCH 2 Service evaluation was a challenging research method for me to understand initially, again, it was not one I had encountered in my previous education. Once I was shown examples of its practical’s application, I came to understand how it can be applied to physiotherapy research. My understanding of this method is that it looks to gather feedback from an individual’s experience of a service provided to them. An example of this could be a physiotherapy appointment, where a patient provides feedback on their experience. Its importance lies in the ability to see from a service users’ perspective instead of our own, this allows us to understand where a service is valuable and where it could be improved. I can see this applied in many scenarios within physiotherapy, with the main one being the patient’s opinion of a physiotherapy appointment at an NHS clinic or private clinic. Data could be collected via a patient satisfaction survey; this shows where the service is doing well and where there could be some improvement. Process evaluation can help to diagnose whether resources are being used effectively or going to “waste”. For example, advanced physiotherapists being brought in to look at minor injuries where their knowledge and expertise can be used elsewhere. In summary, it’s an effective method to audit standards of practice, to be observed and maintained and to see what standards a service achieves (Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust 2023). Narrative analysis is used to focus on the story being told from a personal experience (Limpaecher 2020) and is one of multiple types of qualitative research. This intrigued me in the module as it takes in information from a personal account and then portrays it, whereas quantitative data presents sets of data. This can be particularly useful in physiotherapy as you can see illness, disease and conditions from a patient’s perspective, seeing them as a person instead of a set of numbers. There are many benefits of using narrative analysis, the main being the depth of data that we can collect (Stimers 2023). This includes feelings, thoughts and emotions. This is particularly useful and applicable to physiotherapy as the knowledge and insight shared from patients to you can be used to help diagnose the issue that they have come to see you for. There are also drawbacks to using narrative analysis over other methods, one being that it can be time consuming (Stimers 2023), depending on the level of depth you are wanting and in healthcare settings this usually indicates that it can be costly. Narrative analysis can follow the general stages of qualitative data analysis which are the following – “familiarisation, data reduction, data display and report writing” (Aman Mezmir 2020), these steps ensure qualitative data is reliable and accurate. Working with the experts by experience (EBE) was an excellent opportunity and was valuable to learning. They were able to provide their insight and knowledge, accumulated over years of their experience. They were able to present us with varying scenarios about their contribution to research projects, we were then asked whether we felt this was good/weak involvement or participation. This was interesting as I found that we all had differing opinions. For example, the EBE being asked to provide their qualifications was interpreted as participation by some and involvement by others. This was a beneficial task which I will certainly bear in mind for future use. It was also a good experience for us as the EBE are specialists in their own condition and can share this with us, we value their experiences. They also mentioned that they feel they benefit from sharing as it helps with their public speaking when presenting to students and allows them to “give back” and contribute to healthcare. Co-producing research with EBE is valuable to both parties as we gain firsthand knowledge on conditions or scenarios, and they help us to back our research with evidence, and the quality of the research is improved as gain expert perspectives (McLean et al., 2023). In a clinical setting, I will apply this learning as I will be able to use my experience from working with EBE to see different perspectives in scenarios. I will gather the information together to form my research, this will be from multiple reliable resources to ensure that the data collected is valid. Peer feedback is a process in which peers provide one another with constructive criticism on their work and research. The input from others helps to provide a subjective view of what you have done well, as well as where there could be improvement – it could even be seen as a service evaluation if a peer volunteers as a participant in a study. According to a study, peer feedback can be a valuable experience (Lerchenfeldt et al., 2023). Having had peers review my work, I find this to be true as it has helped me to identify areas for improvements and change them. For example, in the first patch I was given positive feedback on drawing from my previous knowledge of research and how this helped my understanding coming into the module. However, for the second patch, I was given constructive criticism as to the fact that I should have delved more into the negative aspects of using service evaluation as a research method, as I only mentioned the positives and its applications in physiotherapy and healthcare. It could be argued that only discussing the positives can create bias in research and to reduce this, it was therefore recommended by peers to mention both to create a balanced proposal. In patch 4 I was also given feedback on adding more regarding the process of bringing in an EBE and how this can be challenging for researchers. This can be a reason as to why they cannot get their input on research or their help in co-producing research. In the entirety of the investigating health module, I have further developed upon my knowledge and understanding of research, research methods and their application to healthcare, more specifically physiotherapy. Reflecting upon the previous patches starting with patch 1, I came into the module with previous knowledge and built upon this as we moved on to learning about audit and service evaluation and their uses. Reflecting, I discussed how this module could potentially be valuable for us further in our education but also in our careers. Having now completed this I feel this is certain and I now have a deeper understanding of research, research proposals and the process that goes into it such as getting support from the EBE (if needed), which relates into patch 4. Reflecting on the second and third patch, I have learnt the importance of qualitative research, analysis and its application in physiotherapy. The significance of qualitative research is undeniable, as it portrays more than just numbers but an individual’s thoughts, feelings and emotions. A perspective is given, rather than data on a graph. While a wholistic approach has it’s benefits within healthcare, I personally feel that qualitive research has many implications for us as service providers. We can provide and understand to a patient individually rather than seeing them as a cohort. On revisiting patch 4, I have realised the importance of having the help of experts in co-producing research, and the benefits this can bring to both of us. We are able to understand how patients view the healthcare system and healthcare workers such as physiotherapists, and clinics. In a study, it was concluded that patients with lived experiences have a unique perspective on life living with disease, injury and the care journey. They should be considered experts in their field and in combination with professional knowledge this can lead to improved outcomes for patients (Gustavsson et al. 2022). Similarly, as discussed in patch 5, peers often hold valuable experience to critically evaluate work. Having had peer feedback from more experienced students has helped me in this work as it demonstrates where I have done well on my work. It has allowed me to better self-assess and critique my own work. This module has helped me to understand the true importance of research, and this has been helpful on my journey as a student. My understanding of research was limited, and I was struggling to understand how I would be able to practically apply its learning within physiotherapy. I have now, however, come to realise how vital it is and how it is just as important as the practical elements of the course. Using research or conducting it can help to improve factors of care and outcomes. The process of the patchwork assessment has helped to develop my understanding. As it is piece by piece, my knowledge was being consolidated as I was learning, and I was able to tie each patch together. This is unlike other modules where you can often read through the entirety of module and then complete an examination or piece of coursework. I found this useful because if I did not understand a concept, I was able to revisit it that week when the focus was still that patch, rather than covering the content weeks later. This helped my retention of information. In conclusion, I feel the module has helped my growth as a physiotherapy student. It has allowed me to apply research skills to my work and to also understand research that is presented to me on an analytical/raw level. I have found the practice throughout the weeks of this module to be a challenging yet rewarding experience. Word Count: 1844 REFERENCE LIST Aman Mezmir, E.
