Benjamin Franklin, who was born on January 17, 1706, and died at the age of 84 on April 17, 1790, was a writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher, and philospher. Above all else, he was one of the Founding Fathers, helped draft and sign the Declaration of Independence, and was the first Chief Executive Officer, otherwise known as a Postmaster General. He became a prosperous early American publisher and printer in Philadelphia, which was the leading city in all of the colonies, publishing the newspaper "The Pennsylvania Gazette" when he was 23 years old. The newspaper was very popular, making him wealthy. He also published "Poor Richards Almanack", Richard being a pseudonym. Around 1767, he was working on a different newspaper, the "Pennsylvania Chronicle", a newspaper that was popular for dislike of the british monarchy. He later was the pioneer and first president of a college named "Academy and College of Philadelphia" in the year 1751. He was also a deputy postmaster-general in 1753 for the colonies owned by the british, allowing him to create the first national network for communcations. In 1769, he was the first secretary in the "American Philosophical Society" which is a organization that provides knowledge about humanities and science. He was elected its president in 1769.
