Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez was born in New York, the Bronx on October 13,1989.Her parents were “Sergio Ocasio Roman, and Blanca Ocasio Cortez”.Alexandria had a younger brother named “Gabriel”.She has served the U.S representative for New York’s 14th congressional district since 2019, as a member of Democratic Party.On June 26, 2018, Ocasio-Cortez drew national recognition when she won the Democratic Party's primary election for New York's 14th congressional district.Her dad was from the bronx, and her mom was from Puerto Rico.Ocasio-Cortez attended Yorktown High School, graduating in 2007.In high school and college, Ocasio-Cortez went by the name of "Sandy Ocasio".She came in second in the microbiology category of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in 2007 with a research project on the effect of antioxidants on the lifespan of the nematode of the nematode caenorhabditis elegans. In high school, she took part in the National Hispanic Institute's Lorenzo de Zavala (LDZ) Youth Legislative Session.After graduating from high school, Ocasio-Cortez enrolled at Boston University.Her father died of lung cancer in 2008 during her second year, and Ocasio-Cortez became involved in a lengthy probate battle to settle his estate.
