In India Buddhism spread rapidly. And as 'Dharma' was for Ashoka not just the repetitoin of empty prayers and the performance of pooja and ceremonies but the performance of good deeds and social uplifts. All over the country public gardens, hospitals and wells roads grew up. Special provision was made for the education of women. Four great university Town- Taxila Mathura Ujjain and Nalanda- attracted students not only from India, but from distant countries, from china to Western Asia and these students carried back home with them the message of Buddha's teaching.
