"Jesus H Mother Fucking Christ!" A voice yelled through the mirror. Ariadne looked back into the bathroom mirror, still directed toward the shower. Ari was sitting up naked looking at the mirror on her side. "You fucking idiots actually did it. Well good for fucking you." Ari began slowly applauding. "Now where's that fucking pervert neighbor of yours Ariadne? He better not be trying to sneak a peek."
"Seriously? I'm in the bedroom, I can't see a thing!" Gavin yelled from the bedroom.
"Yeah? Well, you better move your ass to the living room and close the fuckin' door on your way." Gavin complied with Ari's request, begrudgingly. "Oh, begrudgingly?! I heard that! You better do it with a fuckin' smile on your face!" Ari yelled from the bathtub, through the bathroom mirror, and into the bedroom.
“Like I’d wanna see a bitch like you naked anyway,” Gavin said under his breath after closing the bedroom door.
“I might not have heard that, but I know that you said something under your breath!” Ari yelled from the bathroom, “If you got something to say, come say it to my face, bitch-boy!” Gavin decided it wasn’t worth arguing with her and kept quiet. “Yeah, that’s right! You just stay in there and keep your mouth closed!” Ari got out of the bathtub, made her way to the bedroom, and got dressed. Ariadne was looking away out of respect.
“Why do you have to talk to him like that?” Ariadne asked.
“Who, him?” Ari nodded toward the door. “What’s the problem? Is he your boyfriend or something?” Ari asked, “Actually, don’t answer that, I don’t care. Anyway, why did you look away? You've seen these tits a million times. The only thing different about us is the color of our hair."
"I was just trying to give you your privacy." Ariadne tried to explain.
"Privacy? Oh, like the million times you stared at me in the mirror, judging every inch of my body?"
"I wasn't staring at you! I was looking at me," Ariadne defended.
"Yeah? And what's the difference?" Ariadne didn't have a reply. "Yeah, obviously she doesn't have a reply, because she knows I'm right!"
"Can Gavin come back in now?" Ariadne sighed, attempting to change this awkward topic.
"Yeah, whatever," Ari said, waving her question off. "Why do you call him Gavin anyway? Isn't his name Ringo?" Ari asked.
"Because I want to. What does it matter to you?" Ariadne answered as she opened the door for Gavin.
“It doesn’t matter to me, I was just wondering if that was your pet name for him or whatever. I wouldn’t want you getting jealous of me for calling him by his special pet name.”
“It’s my nickname,” Gavin explained, as he walked into the bedroom. Ariadne was sitting on the bed, and Ari was sitting in the same spot, but in the reflection of the mirror. “You can call me whatever you want, but I prefer to be called Gavin. Anyway, let’s talk about what’s going on here.” Gavin said in an attempt to force me to not type what his true intentions were in quickly changing the subject. Ari nodded her head, impressed with that subtle form of manipulation.
“I’m not even gonna ask what you were trying to hide, because it’s probably stupid,” Ari said.
“Why are you such a…” Ariadne started but broke off.
“A what? You can say it, you’re a big girl now.” Ari said with a sly smile.
“A bitch.” Gavin blurted out.
“Boom! There it is!” Ari yelled out, falling back on the bed laughing. After composing herself, she continued. “I guess I’ll have to explain to you idiots how all of this works. First, you’re not supposed to notice me, same with Rin, but we notice you. Second, we’re meant to protect you until you die.”
“Protect us? From what?” Ariadne cut in.
“Well, if you would have let me finish, you prude little cunt,” Ari said with a sarcastic smile, “that black goo that you saw suffocating me, that gunk is called Darkness. It gets into our reality on this side, intending to get into your side. The only way to get into your side is by the mirror.” There was a knock on the door, on Ari’s side, and she looked up. “Oh fucking great. Of course, he would come knocking, because you’re fucking here.” Ari said, throwing her hand in the air, and gesturing to Gavin. She got up to answer the door. Ariadne and Gavin looked at each other curious about who it could be. “It’s fucking Rin you ideots, obviously, who the fuck else would it be?” She yelled at them from the living room. When she came back, Rin was following behind her. Ariadne noticed that Rin and Gavin looked exactly the same, just as Ari and she had, except for their hair. Rin’s hair was shaved off in a buzz cut. As Ari and Rin sat on the bed, Rin’s hand quickly went up squeezing Ari’s breast. And in an instant reaction, Ari punched him hard on the side of his head, sending him falling to the floor.
“Dude, so fuckin’ worth it!” He said as he got up, sitting back down next to Ari again.
“Yeah? And you fucking touch my titty again, I’m cuttin’ your fuckin’ dick off.” Ari proclaimed.
“No wonder she’s so defensive toward you,” Ariadne said to Gavin.
“Hey, I’m nothing like that guy.” Gavin defended.
“Holy shit, is that your person?” Rin asked Ari, getting up for a closer look at Ariadne in the mirror. “You’re so hot as a blonde.”
“Dude, will you shut the fuck up please?!” Ari yelled at Rin, and he sat back down obediently.
“So you two know each other too?” Ariadne asked.
“Pst, only because you two idiots decided to meet today. I was perfectly content with this creep beating off to me from his balcony.”
“I never did that!” Rin said, “Okay, maybe I did, a bunch of times, but it was so worth it!” Ari looked at him with a look of disgust on her face.
“And don’t think your boy over there ain’t done the same thing,” Ari said, pointing at Gavin.
"I would never do that!" Gavin said truthfully but remembering the time at the beginning of summer when Ariadne was sunbathing in between their apartments.
"Oh yeah, my dude!" Rin said. Ari shook her head.
"I told you. They're all fucking creeps. So what'd you do Ringo, after creeping on my girl Ariadne sunbathing?" Ari asked.
"Nothing!" Gavin said. He tried his best to hide his thoughts, but couldn't help but remember how hot she was, touching himself when he went back inside.
"There it is!" Ari proclaimed.
"Dude, yes! I don't blame you, bro, she is super smokin'!" Ari noticed Ariadne's reaction and began laughing hysterically.
"Look at her," she said trying to catch her breath, "she's turning redder than the Devil's dick! I think she wants you to touch her titty!" She said, falling backward onto the bed laughing.
"Is this seriously what you guys do all day? Make sexual innuendos at each other?" Gavin asked.
"Shut your fuckin' mouth, Ringo," Ari said, pointing at Gavin.
"Yeah, shut your fuckin' mouth dude, bro!" Rin failed at mimicking. Ari looked at Rin.
"You shut the fuck up too!" Ari told him. He complied again, but squinted his eyes, pointing at Gavin.
"Can we get back on topic please?" Ariadne asked.
"Yeah, whatever." Ari said, "where was I?"
"The black stuff that you were covered in," Gavin said.
"Oh, right. Okay so, that black stuff is Darkness. It's like the mortal enemy of the Source Consciousness or whatever."
"Hold on," Ariadne cut in, "what's the Source Consciousness? You talked about it earlier too." Ari sighed.
"I don't fuckin' know what it is. It's like this giant ball of energy or something. Okay, you know what God is right?" Ariadne and Gavin both nodded. "Okay well, the Source Consciousness created God."
"Wait." Gavin interrupted. "It created God? How is that possible?" He asked skeptically.
"Okay first, quit fucking interrupting me! Second, I don't fucking know! I'm not a god-damn Source Consciousness expert. Any fuckin' way, the Source Consciousness was born from this Darkness. And I guess it like, defied the Darkness and continued to exist, which basically pissed off the Darkness. So the Darkness made it its life goal to destroy the Source Consciousness." Now it was Ariadne's turn to interrupt. Ari sighed. "Fuckin' what? You're gonna fuckin' interrupt me anyway, so just say it."
"How did the Darkness create the Source Consciousness?" Ariadne asked. Ari sighed again.
"Jesus fuckin' H, am I gonna have to explain every tiny little fuckin' detail? That's why we don't interact with you Free-willers, you all are dumb as rocks, and use your free will to ask dumb ass questions. Okay, it was like a reaction or something. The Darkness is like a self-sufficient machine. It feeds on the energy that it creates, it just so happens that the energy that it creates is consciousness. Normally this conscious energy isn't aware of its consciousness, so the Darkness just like, instantly consumes it. But the Source Consciousness somehow became self-aware. Its self-awareness allowed it to choose to consume the Darkness, rather than be consumed by the Darkness. I'm literally having to get access to this information right now because I have no clue about any of this useless shit! Is there any more useless shit that you need to know? Or can I continue with the relevant shit?" Ari asked, patiently sarcastic.
"Just continue," Ariadne said.
"Okay, so the Darkness's goal is to get rid of the Source Consciousness, but it can't. So instead it attacks the Source Consciousness's Dreamers and their Dreams. Their Dreams are what is our reality. So they created a layer as a buffer, to protect you. That layer is our realm. The Darkness gets into our realm through the Dreamer, so then we prevent it from moving through to your realm." Ari explained, clearly agitated at having to do so.
"So, how does the Darkness get into your realm exactly?" Gavin asked.
"Actually that's a pretty good fuckin' question, Ringo!" Ari said, praising Gavin. "We don't fuckin' know. But, I have a theory. We know that the Source Consciousness is an experience junkie. That's like, his whole purpose for creating all of these infinite realities. So I think it's letting the Darkness into our reality on purpose, just to get the experience from it. I'm not sure though. It could have just happened as one of those momentary iteration things that just happens."
"Momentary iteration?" Ariadne asked.
"It's the thing where new realities are created. You know, for every choice made, a new reality is created for its alternative." Ari sighed again. "I guess you don't know… So, okay, if you have an apple, a pear, and an orange. You choose to eat the apple. Then a new reality is created where you choose to eat the pear. Another reality is created where you chose to eat the orange. But the you that chose to eat the apple continued in that reality. A new you that's pretty much like a copy of you is created for the new realities. This doesn't just happen when you make a conscious decision, but every decision in every single moment." Ari paused to take a deep breath. "Fuck! You probably don't understand any of this!" Ariadne was stuck trying to wrap her mind around everything. "I fuckin' told you so!" Ari said.
"Okay," Gavin cut in, "all this sci-fi stuff is confusing, but what does it have to do with that black stuff that was on you in the bathtub? So it's like an alien or something?"
"An alien? Are you fucking kidding me, Ringo?" Ari asked.
"Actually," Rin cut in, "let me explain this. I'm something of an expert on this stuff." He said, matter-of-factly.
"Seriously?" Ari looked at him with questioning eyes, and so did everybody else. "This isn't the science of how a bong works, dude."
"Ugh, yeah, I know. But like, I know about this stuff, yo." Rin explained, though not very convincingly.
"Okay, well then, fuckin’ have at it," Ari said, holding her hand up to give him the floor.
"So uh, okay…" Rin cleared his throat, as everyone stared at him, waiting. "Okay, what you call the soul, that is the consciousness that is given to us by the Dreamer." Everyone's expression, especially Ari's, changed to awe, as Rin's tone changed from an awkward stoner to an educated professional. “It's a small piece of the Dreamers energy, but It's also like a tether, or more like an umbilical cord, connecting us to the Dreamer. Then the Dreamer has an umbilical cord that connects it to the Source Consciousness. The Dreamers exist just outside of the Source Consciousness. And the Source Consciousness and the Dreamers exist in the Darkness.” Rin noticed the confusion on Ariadne and Gavin’s faces, “So imagine a basketball submerged in water, where the water is constantly pressing on the basketball on all sides. Eventually, over time, the skin of the basketball is going to crack letting the water inside of it. This is similar to what is happening in our case. Except in our case, the Darkness is constantly consciously searching for a way in. As far as the Source Consciousness is concerned, it never does, because the Source Consciousness is constantly growing feeding off of the Darkness that is trying to consume it. But the Dreamers don't do this, the Dreamers receive energy, the same way that we receive energy. Because of this, the Dreamers are more vulnerable than the Source Consciousness. There are Dreamers that the Darkness has completely corrupted. Then some Dreamers are not affected by the Darkness at all. And then there are Dreamers like ours, who have been invaded by the Darkness but not yet affected by it, because of us and our realm.” Rin paused, allowing them to process what he had explained.
“Jesus Christ Rin, who would have thought you could be so…” Ari said, pausing to find the right word. “Not a dumbass.”
“Rin, that was actually very well explained.” Ariadne praised him, and Gavin was also nodding his acceptance.
“Sweet!” Rin said, in his weird stoner voice to Ariadne through the mirror. “So will you like, show me your tit now?” The instant the last word left his mouth, Ari punched him again in the head, knocking him to the floor.
“And just like that, you’re a fucking idiot again,” Ari proclaimed.
“Still worth it though!” Rin said as he took his place again, next to Ari.
“That was a good explanation and everything, but it doesn’t answer my question though. What exactly is this Darkness? Where does it come from? What was that grenade that exploded with light?” Gavin asked. Rin cleared his throat again.
“Sorry, I wasn’t quite finished yet. For you to understand fully what is going on, you need all of the available information. Otherwise specific details will not make sense to you. The Source Consciousness is the start and the end of our reality, of all of the realities that it creates. But the Source Consciousness does not create realities itself. It creates the Dreamer, then the Dreamer creates realities through the concept of Dream. So there is only one reality, the reality where the Source Consciousness and the Dreamers exist. The Dreamers dream, creating realities within their consciousness. So our reality is the dream of a Dreamer, a thought. It’s all a lot more complicated than that, and without the instantaneous access that we have, it would take multiple eons to explain the intricacies of how consciousness works. But basically, put into terms that you could understand, there is only one consciousness, the Source Consciousness, split countless times to the Dreamers. The Dreamers split their consciousness to us. So the Source Consciousness exists, the Dreamers exist, and our consciousness exists but as one singular consciousness. Though everything that we know as tangible does not exist.”
“Now also as does the Darkness exist. It will attempt to penetrate the Dreamer, getting into its consciousness. Through the tether or the umbilical cord, it will get into our consciousness. Now most of the time, our subconsciousness will fight off the Darkness before it even gets to us. But at other times, such as this one where it had come through Ari, the Darkness will get out into our realm of reality. The consciousness that it came through will hold it in our realm. Therefore it is necessary for the Darkness to terminate or kill the host of the consciousness that it had come through. That is why it was attempting to suffocate Ari in the bathtub, before your intervention. If it had succeeded, it would have come through the mirror to begin corrupting your realm of reality. The light grenade that Gavin used, didn’t actually kill the Darkness but forced it out of our reality. It is similar to turning on a light in a dark room. But the Grenade was not actually light, but pure energy of the Source Consciousness. The Dreamer provides us with this energy for this purpose. The energy cannot be used in your realm, because your aspect of reality is much weaker than ours. It is assumed that we will always prevent the Darkness from getting into your side, therefore it is not necessary to add this layer of protection to your side. All of this is based on the logic of the Dreamer.” Rin huffed as he finished.
“Okay, that kind of makes sense, sort of. But if the Darkness gets through, why doesn’t the Dreamer just wake up and end the dream?” Ariadne asked.
“It would,” Rin answered, “but you have to consider what is known about the Dreaming and the way that it works. For you, you dream, you create a temporary reality, then you wake up, ending that reality. Sometimes you will have a lucid dream, where you can control certain aspects of the dream. Well, the Dreamer is in a state of permanent lucidity. The goal of the Dreamer is to create realities for the sake of the experience. Therefore, a successful dream must continue for as long as there is a possibility for a new experience. Similar to the way that you dream, when the Dreamer wakes up, the dream ends permanently. Also, you have to consider the experience. In the case where Darkness gets through, this creates an experience. The Dreamer is unbiased toward the type of experience that is the dream. So even though the Dreamer will fight against the Darkness to prevent it from entering the dream, in the case where it does enter the dream, the Dreamer will not terminate the dream as a result of that. It is unknown but assumed, the only way that the Dreamer can terminate the dream is if the dream itself becomes corrupt. This is not to say corrupt by the Darkness, but corrupt in that the dream can no longer sustain itself as a dream. This happens similarly to aging, where the conciseness of the Dreamer becomes worn out, becoming unable to sustain the aspect of the dream. Not to say that another Dreamer couldn't continue the dream. This has happened, as well as multiple dreamers sustaining a greater dream. There is a great dream, similar to this one, only much more vast.”
“Okay Rin, you’re really starting to freak me out with your multiple personalities,” Ari said, “do you idiots need a more thorough explanation or can we move the fuck on?”
“Hold on,” Gavin said, “what about the mirror thing? Have we always been able to go through the mirror into your realm?”
“No, you fuckin’ nit,” Ari answered. “We keep the mirrors sealed with our presence. The only reason you came through is that I was incapacitated by the goddamn Darkness.”
“What about that narrator's voice?” Gavin asked.
“That’s another layer to the experience. Some other fucking idiot somewhere feels they need to create their own reality or Dream. But they don’t understand that they are not creating it, just manipulating an already established dream. Creating a dream and sustaining it long enough for it to become established, requires much more than just imagination.”
“So basically, we’re just characters in a book that someone is writing,” Gavin said. Ari looked at him, agitated by his ignorance.
“Fuckin’ no dude!” Ari started, but Rin stopped her by putting his hand on her leg, insisting that she let him continue. She waved him off, and he cleared his throat.
“The author only has limited power to manipulate the dream. The dream is already established, but not unlike the Dreamer, the author can alter certain aspects. All that this does is create another iteration. Anyone can do this, because we are all essentially one entity at the soul level, connecting to the Source Consciousness. So basically if you look at all of your stories, your books, and films, they are just someone tapping into an aspect of a dream.”
“So you’re saying that sci-fi movies are real then?” Gavin asked.
“There is no fake, or sci-fi. Everything is a reality that exists in a dream. So if you read a book about vampires, you know that vampires aren’t real. But it’s not that they aren’t real, just that they don’t exist in your dream. But the idea of vampires doesn’t come from your dream but is a reality of another dream being tapped into by someone from your dream, and the same vice versa for something from your dream to theirs. In the dream where vampires exist, someone from that dream can see into our dream. They may write a sci-fi story about us, where what is unlikely to them is sci-fi, just as they are sci-fi to us. This is exactly the case with the narrator that we can hear here. Where the narrator exists, there is no mirror realm. Their dream is a unique dream because they are protected by the Source Consciousness itself. This is because their dream is made up of many Dreamers. They have what is called the Universe. The Universe is essentially a hub where Dreamers can insert their dream making them a part of the great Dream of the Universe. This is basically a merging of dreams. But not all dreams can be merged with the Dream of the Universe. They must abide by the logic of the primary Dreamer. The primary Dreamer is the Dreamer that created the concept of the Dream of the Universe. So as long as a dream aligns with the logic of the primary Dreamer, it may be inserted into the Dream of the Universe becoming a part of that dream."
"Wait," Gavin interrupted, "what logic? You mean like the logic of gravity?"
"Gravity is a logic, not the logic. Using gravity as an example. If a Dreamer uses gravity as a logic, in order for another Dreamer to merge with it, the second Dreamer must also use gravity as a logic. If the second Dreamer does not, this will create what is a logical paradox." Rin explained.
"Hold the fuck on!" Ari interrupted, "How in the fuck did we get on the topic of logical paradoxes?!
