Edus Azatorn was a great sorcerer and ancient mage who travelled the world. Having studied at Sihirisium College at a young age she was given access to the Great Library where she learned many of magicks that most in the world were unaware the existence of. She was able to find and utilize the portals there were spread throughout the world and was known for defeating various creatures that threatened villages, towns and even cities. In her old age the woman settled down in Miller Dale where she was still able to see many travelers and adventurers to pass along her wisdom too in a more peaceful political free way as opposed to the college environment. As she raised her family, she began to see them as the sole keeper of her legacy as the books of history that would be recorded could perhaps eventually turn into mythos or be lost. Edus desired to have her family legacy live on through her grandson. As the boy was raised up, she invested a great deal of time and energy into the boy to train him and teach him in the ways of magic unbeknownst to others in the village. However, the boy did not seem to be naturally inclined to the talents nor did he care to even try to learn. The sorcerer understanding her grandson may never amount to magical prowess at all let alone anything close to herself was determined to give him a push in the right direction. While she was torn about the ethical dilemma from her practice of magick she rationalized it in her own mind and decided to try various ways to transfer a portion of her power into the child. Using a great spell, she attempted to imbue the child, but the child became sickly and began to suffer from outbursts of wild magic. This sort of untamed magic was that which could potentially harm more than just the child and she had no other choice but to remove the magical essence from the child and return it into her own hands. She considered ancient artifacts that she recalled from her memory but most of these were fabled and if they were real, they were usually protected by legendary creatures of immense power and hidden in faraway places that were near impossible to reach. That risk was just far too great. One day when going about her theory crafting after another disappointing lesson Edus came across a brilliant thought. What if she could simply enlist some help of more powerful magical entities and they could together solve this problem. Having realized earlier on in this endeavor that many of the college folk would deem this sort of practice unethical she thought about if there could be any groups that would help her. She crossed off her entire professional network of wizards, mages, sorcerers and other magic practitioners. This thought however was different. Although these groups wouldn’t do it. What if there were entities that would? Edus went down the slippery slope from what started as teaching the boy, to giving him some magic to now enlisting the help of magical creatures to perform spells unknown to accomplish her task. The woman was obsessed with the thought of passing on her legacy and there was no going back. This seemed to be the only way so it was not long until she packed up some provision and decided to come out of retirement for one last quest that she was certain could help solidify her family name into history. Her travel did not take very long since she was accustomed to the quickest methods to move about the world which included access to the portals. So Edus entered the Lilac Forest. The Forest was home to all sorts of magical and mystical creatures, some dangerous and even deadly while other creatures were more friendly or simply just less hostile. The creatures she searched for were infamous creatures of magical power known and fabled to be neutral creatures in alignment, the Fae. After what seem to be a fortnight within the mystical forest and several battles Edus began to run out of provision and was beginning to chalk up her witch hunt to be a loss when she was approached by an entity of unfathomable charisma and beauty which radiated magical power surpassing any that she had come across before. “What brings you here seeking Edus Azatorn of Miller Dale” the entity spoke to her. Edus almost froze being unable to believe her eyes and thought that she may perhaps be dreaming but she fell to her knees which gave the entity a pretentious smirk and a chuckle. “I come to ask for a favor… a favor that would grant power…” Edus responded but was quickly answered “As do most humans Edus” The Azatorn wizard continued through her intimidation to explain her situation “I long for a grandson that would carry on my legacy and that the Azatorn magic would go on for eternity, but Jeliel is simply not up for this task. I believe you have the power to make him.” The Fae smiled “I do have the power to make him indeed Edus. Tell me what you would like?” “I want him to have powerful magic that is used to help people not hurt them.” “Hmmm…” The fae looked on “And that he would be one which nature and life is a priority to help save and protect. One that will help those in need when called upon and even helping those who don’t even ask for it. One that learns from his mistakes and makes him stronger!” The fae now giggling at this point “Oh you humans do so much for glory. I can do this for you Edus but in return I want you to give your life to the child raising him and teaching him until he grows to be an adult.” “Of course, I will do that he is my grandson” “Would you be willing to give me your own magical strength to instill into the boy?” “I…I will….” The Fae giggled again “As you wish Edus. I will have a lot of fun with this one.” With that she touched Edus who felt her power drain immensely falling to her face completely prone she gasped for breath as she thought the Fae was beginning to take her very life force. Her vision became blurry, and the sounds of the Fae’s giggles became distant until eventually everything became quite and dark. Waking up at her bed in Miller Dale Edus thought she has experienced a terrible dream. Just to humor herself she attempted to cast a powerful but harmless illusion spell but was nowhere close to being able to conjure such a magical feat. The woman became alarmed but also excited thinking that this was the fulfillment of her request she sprang from bed and ran to go see her grandson Jeliel to help him learn magical abilities with his newfound power. When Jeliel was still uninterested and unable to perform magical feats, the woman began to weep tears of frustration and began to curse the Fae retiring to her chambers not wanting to be bothered. That night the Mystic Eye, travelled into Miller Dale and there was a strange occurrence. A young boy stumbled into the town of Miller Dale along with the magical mystical caravan. The boy began to linger around the traders and the commoners alike as the Mystic Eye was putting on their best performances and sales pitches to the people of Miller Dale. The child had minor abilities and an interesting aura most notably was that of a raven companion who followed and conversed with the boy. Soon due to his odd appearance of pitch-black hair like that of the starless night sky, ghastly pale skin, and eyes that were a light blood red throughout the iris, pupil, and sclera, the boy attracted the attention of the travelers and the common folk. The two groups began to ask questions about the boy and the Mystic Eye was under the impression he was a native of Miller Dale while the commonfolk thought the opposite. Neither group was aware of the boys’ origins or whereabouts and soon Elders were consulted on the boy. He was too young in appearance and maturity to be considered a corrupted practitioner of dark magical arts or a demonic entity. It was determined that the boy was indeed human and perhaps simply had some form of unknown condition. Amongst the Elders who were summoned to consult about this dealing was Edus who realized how she had been cheated by the Fae. She lied to the other Elders and said that this boy had a strange condition that was incurable which she had seen before, but he would live and be a normal member of society. The other members were hesitant to believe this but to assure them Edus stated that she herself would take him under her own wing within her house and have him grow as a servant. In her frustration Edus planned a second trip back to the forest but she knew without her magic she would not be able to defend herself very long and so she took the boy with her as collateral. Upon reaching the forest she screamed curses loudly to the Fae which eventually drew the attention of evil and dangerous creatures, but the Fae appeared and protected them. “What is wrong Edus Avatorn of Miller Dale.” “What is this boy that you have imbued? Why didn’t you imbue my grandson Jeliel.” The fae giggled “Oh Edus you never asked me to imbue Jeliel you asked me to make you a grandson that would carry on the Avatorn magic for eternity and I did just that. I made him… who as a Fae, will live for eternity, if not killed that is.” She couldn’t help but giggle more and more at her creative trickery upon the poor human woman. “I…I…” “Don’t worry Edus your magic won’t be lost. Even if he dies your magic returns to me and I will send him to the next quest. He won’t die if I live!” “You… you. tricked me…” Edus fell to her knees again but not out of respect or worship for the Fae creature like before but this out of despair and sorrow. “You asked that he would be one with nature and he is… you see his raven he shares with him his very own life force, and they are linked…Oh yeah and you said you wanted him to help people even those who don’t ask for it… As a Fae I will make the boy appear to accompany quests of adventurers at my discretion… and you asked that he protect other and not hurt them and so he will never be able to learn any spell that directly damages any creature all of his spells will just be super helpful…And and and!” The fae creature grew with excitement with each new explanation “You wanted him to learn from his mistakes and grow stronger from them, right? Well, whenever he has a traumatic experience, he will be haunted by nightmares but when he overcomes them and beats that past mistake he will be able to grow stronger and learn new unique magicks…” Edus punched into the ground as she cried. And the young boy began to cry being overrun with stimulation from the frightening Lilac Forest. “Well now Edus I suggest you get going back. I’ll make sure you get out of the forest safe. Afterall, you promised me you would take care of the boy. Thanks for that… I hate children…If I were you I would hold true to that promise Edus…you wouldn’t want to see the repercussions of me actually being angry…” With that she vanished and in a puff of smoke that dissipated to a radiating light Edus was now outside of the forest having to take upon her the burden of the new child as a servant for the rest of her life.
